ASGO's 2nd Annual Autism 5K Walk - A Huge Success!

The Autism Society of Greater Orlando ’s 2nd Annual 5K Autism Walk took place on Saturday, June 23, 2007 inside the Orange County Convention Center ’s South Concourse. The following are some of the highlights from the event:

1. There were approximately 700 participants.
2. State Representative Steve Precourt helped kick off our Autism Awareness Walk.
3. An Orange County Proclamation was presented to ASGO which proclaimed June 23, 2007 as Autism Walk Day.
4. Press coverage of the event included Channel 13, FOX News, and the Orlando Sentinel. What a great way to get the word out about autism and ASGO!
5. Mark Leland kicked off the walk by singing his autism song, “Missing Pieces.”
6. Preliminary numbers indicate that ASGO’s net profit was approximately $38,000+. This is approximately $16,000 more than last year’s walk.
7. The Orlando Magic Dancers, The Orlando Predator’s Prowler Cheerleader joined us in the Dad’s area.
8. The feedback has been extremely positive:
• Moms loved the massages and the chocolates.
• Dads loved the competition.
• Kids loved the moon bouncers and balloons.
• Everyone loved the vendor booth area which gave out great information while keeping the kids entertained.
9. Awards were given out to the following teams:
• Family – Largest Number of Participants – Drew’s Dream Team.
• Family – Most Money Raised – Team TAJ.
• Business – Largest Number of Participants – Walmart.
• Business – Most Money Raised – Orlando Magic.
• Schools – Largest Number of Participants – Lake Como.
• Schools – Most Money Raised – John Young Elementary.
