The
Autism Society of Greater Orlando believes that people who have
autism, or some other related disability comprise a diverse
population of individuals. Although they may share a
diagnosis, each individual possesses a variety of unique strengths,
challenges, and learning characteristics. Furthermore each
individual's life is influenced by factors associated with an
idiosyncratic ecology and social familial context. These
personal and environmental factors underscore the importance of
individualization as a necessary and pervasive consideration in the
development of intervention and supports programs.
The Autism
Society of Greater Orlando recognizes that the cause(s) of autism
are still unknown and that there is no single intervention
(treatment) that has been demonstrated to be effective in curing
autism. Although appropriate and individualized interventions
have been shown to be very helpful, and although progress is
occurring at a steady rate, autism is considered to be a lifelong
disability.
The Autism Society of Greater Orlando does not endorse or dismiss
any specific treatment, program, professional and or literature.
